It's been a while...but I'm still here!

I'm taking a bit of a break from SPN fan arts while trying to learn some new stuff with my art generally. So I've signed up for a portrait course with a local guy called Ed Cooper. 12 weeks learning all the ins and outs of both drawing and (gulp!) oil painting. I'm going to miss a couple of weeks for my mum's birthday, so I hope they aren't essential LOL.

As well as the portrait course, turns out my neighbour across the road is a keen artist and she's introduced me to an art club, where you can take something you're working on and sit uninterrupted for a couple of hours to make some progress - definitely handy. Plus the lady who runs the club is an art teacher and demos something every week, and is on hand to help if you get stuck.

Anyway, in preparation for the portrait class I found a nicely lit reference screencap from Heated Rivalry, and I've done a charcoal pencil Shane, which I'm actually relatively pleased with, especially since I haven't really used charcoal pencils much before.


I'll have to try actual charcoal as well - I've used it for life drawing but not really for portraits. I've got two life drawing courses coming up too, should be fun! Guess I'll be busy.
